Dr. Ignacio Blasi Beriain Jr. is a Board Certified Orthodontist – a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Originally from Barcelona, Spain Dr. Blasi moved to the US for his orthodontic training at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he obtained a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science in Oral Biology degree. He is a former Clinical Associate at the Department of Orthodontics and worked at the University of Pennsylvania faculty practice with Dr. Robert L. Vanarsdall for several years. He received his dental degree from the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain and was recognized with the Colgate National Award in dental research. For a few years, he practiced as a general dentist before becoming an orthodontist.
Dr. Blasi is an affiliate member of the Edward H. Angle Midwest Society of Orthodontist. The Edward Angle Society is the world's most prestigious orthodontic honor society. His interest in the field of Orthodontics and the Angle’s membership allows him to stay current with the latest advances within the profession. With his experience and his interaction with different specialties in dentistry, he gained a unique approach to treat both children and adults.
His treatment philosophy is based on a comprehensive diagnosis of the whole maxillofacial complex and a differentiation between the skeletal and dental components; it is the key to create facial harmony, beauty, and smiles to facial esthetics. He believes that early treatment in young children can eliminate a complex treatment care and other problems in the future with a correct management of growth and development. If the patient is treated young enough an extraction treatment in the future and other airway problems could be avoided. He also specializes in diagnosis and management of sleep apnea, periodontal complex adult cases, impacted teeth, congenitally missing teeth, and TMD treatment.
His passion for teaching and education makes him publish and a frequent lecturer at a national and international level in orthodontics. Dr. Blasi is a contributor and co-author of Orthodontics: Current Principles and Techniques, a widely used graduate orthodontic textbook. He is also a member of various national and international dental and orthodontic societies.
Dr. Blasi enjoys spending time with his family. He loves sports, especially skiing, tennis and soccer; and is fluent in Spanish and English.
